US meteorologist Ryan Maue has warned that the developing Super El Niño could be the strongest in 500 to 1,000 years. He said it could become one of humanity's most extreme climate events in centuries. Australia's Bureau of Meteorology says El Niño is already "firmly established", with the 'Niño3.4 temperature index' reaching 1.94°C above average in late July.
