What is a contra fund & how does it work?

A contra fund is a mutual fund that invests in underperforming or temporarily struggling stocks. These funds must devote at least 65% of their assets to equity-linked products and equity derivatives. Investors can buy high-quality assets at lower valuations, with the expectation that they will grow over time but this can involve higher risk and longer waiting periods.
