Voter ID, biometrics to replace Aadhaar for welfare payments: Union minister

Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh said Aadhaar will be replaced by biometric details and voter ID (EPIC) numbers to process payments to government scheme beneficiaries. Speaking at a national workshop, he said Aadhaar-enrolment centres are everywhere and can issue an Aadhaar card to anyone in five minutes. Multiple opposition leaders have criticised the proposal.
