Candidates Tournament is an eight-player, double round-robin event organised by FIDE. The Candidates Tournament is important because it selects the challenger for the World Championship match. Top finishes at tournaments like FIDE World Cup qualify for Candidates. The winner of Candidates 2026 will play India's D Gukesh and China's Ju Wenjun at the respective World Chess Championship matches.
