North Korea raised executions to 60 cases during the 2020–24 period (COVID-19 pandemic), up 46% from 41 in the previous five years, a South Korea-based rights group report said. It noted breaches related to foreign culture and religion, including watching South Korean content, accounted for most executions. Political crime executions rose to 28 from four in the same period.
