First captive-bred Great Indian Bustards released into wild in Raj

Two captive-bred male Great Indian Bustards (GIBs) were released into the wild at Sam in Rajasthan's Desert National Park on October 4, marking the first such release in India. Less than 150 GIBs are estimated to remain in the wild. The birds were raised through a conservation-breeding programme and will be closely tracked to guide future rewilding efforts.
