Study suggests why some smokers develop cancer while others don't

A University of Cambridge study suggested why DNA damage from smoking or sunlight causes cancer in some but not others. Researchers exposed genetically diverse mice to identical carcinogens. They found that while tumours reached similar biological endpoints, their specific evolutionary paths and mutation patterns were dictated by each animal's inherited genetic background.
