Why did a 180-million-year-old sea reptile swallow rocks to survive?

Scientists discovered a sea reptile, Temnodontosaurus, in Germany that lived around 180 million years ago. The reptile, with about 100 teeth, changed its hunting style after an injury and swallowed rocks to survive. Scientists said its worn-out teeth indicate difficulty in chewing, so it likely swallowed rocks that acted as internal grinding tools to help break down food.
