India lost 166 tigers in the year 2025, 40 more than it lost in 2024, the latest data of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has revealed. Wildlife expert Jairam Shukla blamed territorial infighting as a major cause behind tiger deaths in the country, stating "Tiger population has reached a saturation point". Notably, India has the world's largest tiger population.
