A new giant waterlily species, the Colombian giant waterlily (Victoria colombiana), has been identified in Colombia after experts came across its photograph on Instagram. The new species, which can grow up to two metres wide, is already classified as critical endangered. Notably, only 30 to 50 plants of the species are estimated to remain in the wild.
